Marvin Seevers, a 15-year veteran of the transit industry and former BTS Officer for the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA), emphasizes the importance of these roles. "As a BTS Officer, your priority is to get people home safely. You're not just a cop, you're a shepherd," he says. "You're protecting people's families and loved ones, and that's a huge responsibility."

- Participating in training and education programs to stay up-to-date on the latest safety procedures and protocols
In addition to these primary responsibilities, BTS Officers also interact with passengers on a daily basis, which can be both challenging and rewarding. "As a BTS Officer, you're interacting with the public every day," notes Seevers. "You see everything from joy and happiness to anger and frustration. It's a unique challenge, but it's also incredibly rewarding."

"We've had to think outside the box to recruit and retain BTS Officers," notes Maria Gil, HR Manager for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA Metro). "We offer competitive pay and benefits, as well as opportunities for training and professional development. We also partner with local police departments and training facilities to offer joint training sessions and create a pipeline of future officers."
